A.3 Setting the Gap
1. Movethetoggleswitchtotheright;thiswillturn
on(enable)theGapSettingFeature.ThePilot
(red)lightwillbeilluminated.
Note: The motor should be OFF.
2. Ifthecontactlight(yellow)isilluminated,turn
themicrometeradjustmentringclockwise(as
youlookdownontheinstrument)untilthelight
isnolongerilluminated(seeFigure A-5).
3. If the yellow contact light is not illuminated,
slowlyturnthemicrometeradjustmentringin
smallincrements(oneortwoscaledivisions)
counter-clockwise.
Continue moving the micrometer adjustment
ring slowlycounter-clockwiseuntilthecontact
light(yellow)rstturnson.THIS IS THE “HIT
POINT.”
4. Adjust the sliding reference marker, right or
left,totheclosestfullscaledivisionmark(see
Figure A-6).
5. Turnthemicrometeradjustmentringonescale
divisiontothelefttomeetthelineonthesliding
reference marker. THE YELLOW CONTACT
LIGHT SHOULD GO OFF.
6. Youhaveestablishedthegapspaceneeded
formeasurement.Nowturnthetoggleswitch
OFF(left);theredpilotlightshouldgooff.
Theviscosityofelectricallyconductiveuids
maybeaffectedifreadingsaretakenwith
theElectronicGapSettingfeature“on”.Be
suretoshutthefeature“off”beforetaking
readings!
7. Carefullyremovethesamplecup.
Note:
1. Thecupmayberemovedandreplacedwithoutresettingthegapifthemicrometer
adjustmentringhasnotbeenmoved.
2. Removethespindlefromtheviscometerwhencleaning.
3. Re-establishthehitpointeverytimethespindleisattached/detached.
